Vase

For the 3D vase project, it was important for me to create something new. It had to remain simple and recognizable as a vase, but at the same time so fantastic that I should definitely put it in my living room. I chose a vase stretched upwards, similar to a Roman amphora.

The procedure

I started out in an Autodesk Maya scene where I used NURBS in order to achieve the initial form. For the texturing, I searched online for vase textures but after searching for hours I came back to some textures showing paintings which I found were more suitable in my case. I imagined how an artist would have painted this object with oil paints and how it would interact with the surface of the vase.

For the noble charisma, I added a gold border on the rim of the opening and several gold birds circling the center of the vase. Both components extrude outwards from the vase and reflect the light in a special way.

Details

In order to increase the realism even more, I changed the reflective behavior of the vase with the help of an uneven surface, which also changed the structure of the object at the same time. This also includes signs of wear and slight cracks. Ultimately, this vase should be so mystical and yet familiar, as if unknown could have been placed on an approaching asteroid and bask in the sunlight in its mystical splendor.
